The Client

Geophysical Insights, a provider of AI solutions for seismic interpretation in oil and gas exploration and development, has been leading the way for development of machine learning and deep learning since 2011. Their leading product is Paradise – The AI Workbench. Year on year, they seek to further educate the customer base and continually innovate both processes and technology to improve the accuracy with which geoscientists identify hydrocarbons and subsurface geology.


The Challenge

For years, Advertas had successfully hosted smaller, quarterly workshops for Geophysical Insights, covering case studies, product advancements, and AI education. But by 2018, AI had gained significant traction in the industry, presenting an opportunity to create a larger, more impactful event. Advertas recognized the moment and recommended scaling up.


The Approach

With only 90 days to execute, Advertas transformed a planned workshop into a multi-track industry symposium. The team secured top-tier speakers, built sponsorship packages, and partnered with industry associations to ensure credibility and broad reach.

The inaugural event drew 150 attendees from multiple countries. By 2019, attendance doubled, and sponsorships surged. Then came 2020—and the challenge of hosting an engaging virtual event in the midst of a pandemic.

Determined to break the mold of dull web meetings, Advertas developed an immersive digital experience. Attendees navigated a dynamic virtual venue, complete with interactive exhibit halls, live plenary sessions, networking spaces, and a vibrant poster session. The platform seamlessly integrated single sign-on, backend logistics, and real-time tech support, ensuring a smooth experience while preserving the energy of an in-person event.

Each sponsor designed their own booth for the exhibit hall, which was staffed virtually. Visitors could peruse collateral, videos, or chat with staff at their leisure. In the poster session, visitors could ask questions of presenters and leave comments on posters. The user experience was seamless and easy, but there was heavy lifting behind the scenes to make it happen. Advertas implemented single-sign-on, developed infrastructure to connect disparate backend logistics and financial systems, and provided day-of tech support in real time for guests.


The Outcome

By spearheading the Energy Machine Learning Symposium, Advertas positioned Geophysical Insights as the undisputed thought leader in AI-driven subsurface analysis. The event delivered unparalleled branding impact, solidifying the company’s reputation as the premier provider of AI technologies in the energy sector.

In 2021, Advertas won a Gold Hermes Award for “Live or Virtual Event,” recognizing the innovation, business value, and flawless execution of the 2020 Virtual Symposium.
